Studenten maken vaak dezelfde fouten als ze een Engelse scriptie (thesis) schrijven. Deze fouten zijn hieronder opgesomd. Met behulp van onderstaande lijsten kun je voorkomen deze fouten te maken.

Wanneer we een scriptie corrigeren komen we zelden níet een van de onderstaande fouten tegen. Als jij deze fouten niet maakt, onderscheid je je van de rest en ziet je tekst er beter uit.

Research is een ontelbaar zelfstandig naamwoord in het Engels (net als zand, water en ijzer bijvoorbeeld).
Further betekent niet “in addition” (daarnaast); furthermore wel.
The amount of variables may change.

Gebruik number in combinatie met telbare zelfstandig naamwoorden (zoals in combinatie met changes, kids, people etc.), amount gaat met ontelbare zelfstandig naamwoorden (zoals air).

Een afkorting die start met een fonetische (hoorbare) klinker gaat samen met “an.”

Gebruik who wanneer je verwijst naar mensen en that wanneer je naar dingen/objecten verwijst.

Met behulp van dit overzicht kun je jouw Engels verbeteren. De volgende stap is om je consistent een spelling te gebruiken: Amerikaans, Brits of Australisch Engels!
